Michael Douglas opened up to Matt Lauer about his son, Cameron, being sentenced to five years in prison and the difficult decision the judge had to make. Michael is very realistic and doesn't make excuses for his son's actions.

He had this to say:

"Look, my son was a drug dealer and he’s been trying to kill himself for a while and I can’t condone his behavior,� Douglas said on the morning show. “So I think the court recognized his drug addiction as well as the crime he committed ... and the best part of it is he will be able to start his life afresh.�

Despite his addictions and drug dealing, Michael supports Cameron and believes in him:

“The fact is, with all the mistakes and the disease that Cameron has, he’s a great young man and I wouldn’t be supporting him if I didn’t feel that way. So yes, I think the judge was put in a difficult position.�

I think it's commendable that Michael doesn't make excuses like so many parents tend to do. Hopefully his son can make a full recovery and get his life back on track during and after his prison term is up. I cannot even imagine watching your child being put in prison!
