Vampire vixen Sara Canning — star of mega-hit CW TV series The Vampire Diaries and upcoming film Black Field — graces the May cover of Avenue Canada, on stands next week.

As a child, Canning had a steadfast curiosity of the paranormal. Now, as one of the stars of the award-winning CW series, she gets to experience it on a daily basis. In a revealing interview, Canning opens up about her fascination with the undead, a sensationalized tabloid story that quickly taught her the perils of fame and why her star is about to rise even more.

On her childhood fascination with the undead:

I would creep into the living room and hide behind the couch to watch [The X-Files], I would scare myself. I had a really overactive imagination.”

On learning about tabloid sensationalism through untrue rumors about a cast photo shoot gone awry atop an Atlanta bridge last fall (charges were ultimately dropped):

My friends and family all automatically called me, laughing, because they know I’m the last person in the world who would do something like that.”

On the secret to her success:

When I moved away from home … there was no thought in my head of maybe this is going to work out. I was always really adamant about making this happen.”

Ryan Phillippe is starring in the upcoming comedy film MacGruber, based on a popular ‘SNL’ skit. He talked with Women’s Health for their May issue about his hidden talent, his obsessions and how a woman can impress him.

Comedy is the way to making a good impression on him:

“Do something-anything- to make me laugh. If a woman is funny, that will leave an impression and stay on my brain. I like dark, intellectual wit. But no jokes about bodily functions. That’s not a turn-on for me.”

Ryan says the most important things a successful relationship needs:

“Unconditional love and patience. A lot of times, people are in a relationship with someone they’d love to grow old with, but things become tumultuous, and there’s so much that can divide you. That’s the challenge. I got married when I was 23; I’m 35 now [and divorced]. A lot of change can take place in that time. And actors are slightly handicapped by their lifestyle: Couples spend time apart and with other people, and we deal with public scrutiny. It’s hard.”

How Ryan would ditch a bad date:

“If you’re not laughing and mentally stimulating the other person, there’s nowhere to go. You can resuscitate it by drinking. I always have the perfect excuse: ‘I have to put the kids to bed.’”

His little-known talent:

“I rap really well. I can sound like Lil Wayne or Ludacris. I’m dead serious…I can spit!”

His obsession:

Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis shows off her amazing bikini body on the May cover of Fitness magazine. The actress, who is hosting a half marathon this weekend in Central Park, shared some insight on what she eats, where her body confidence comes from and shoots down those pesky rumors.

On being happy with her body:

“I have hips!” she says. “I’m never going to be the thinnest actress, and I don’t want to be. When you’re at peace with yourself and your body, you’re automatically more confident.”

On posing in a bikini for the cover:

“I’m not going to lie. It was very intimidating. There are people who feel comfortable in bathing suits, and I don’t know how they do it. I worked with Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman on the movie Couples Retreat, and they didn’t care about standing around in their bikinis for days. The guys in the movie were more self-conscious than they were!”

On her food philosophy:

“I eat a lot of chicken, salmon, eggs and side salads. But if all I ate were salads every day, I’d shoot myself. Who cares if you can fit in your skinny jeans if you can’t enjoy life and have something good to eat? I went through periods when I said I can’t have this, I can’t have that. Now I don’t deprive myself. Food is meant to be enjoyed.”

She shares the most annoying rumor about herself:

“That the cast of Sex and the City hates one another. We’re standing so close during filming that we touch for 18 hours a day, and then people want to say we don’t get along. It’s the funniest thing in the world.”

Well, her food and workout regimens are obviously working pretty well! She looks fantastic! What do you think about the rumors that the cast mates don’t get along? Do you think there’s any truth to it?

‘Celebrity Apprentice’ star Holly Robinson Peete and her husband, retired NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, opened up to Redbook magazine about dealing with their son, R.J.’s diagnosis of autism.

“We went through this emotional connection, and we just cried in each other’s arms. We didn’t know what the hell this autism thing was. We were both in denial for a few weeks.”

Rodney adds: “I stayed angry and blamed the doctor and was still in denial—while Holly basically rolled up her sleeves and did what needed to be done.”

Holly talked about what she and Rodney learned as a couple while trying to deal with R.J.’s autism.

“The problem with autism is that you don’t know if things are going to come out fine. You just have to tweak the expectations. And that’s what I knew I needed Rodney for—I needed a partner in that journey. We still have our issues, but there’s never any talk of our marriage being over, or any of that stuff we used to talk about.”

Adds Rodney: “It’s Team Peete.”

I can’t even IMAGINE what dealing with something so serious must be like.

Rodney talked about how the whole experience changed him as a person.

“It made me let my guard down and be vulnerable. That was hard for me, because I had been expected to be strong and show confidence always—when you’re a quarterback, that’s what you’ve got to do…In retrospect, it’s also made me think how ironic it is that my whole life has been spent on team sports…That’s what it takes, a team, and that’s what Holly was trying to get me to understand.”

I know I’ve said it before, but I saw this VMAN photoshoot and have to say it again: this man is hawt. How do you like him as a brunette?

‘True Blood’ star Alexander Skarsgard posed for a photoshoot and an interview with VMAN magazine, where he talked about making the transition from being a child actor to a leading man.

“I was in wine country, man, with a beautiful girl. I said to J.J., ‘Your timing is impeccable. If I’d been at a Denny’s I would have started crying.’ I downed a couple of bottles of Pinot and I was set.”

On being accosted in airports by obsessed fans of both ‘Lost’ and the ‘Vampire Diaries’:

“The decibel level at which a 13-year-old can explain how much she loves you—it’s the coolest thing ever.”

On curbing her appetite: “I’m not going to lie: There are times I play mind tricks on myself, like that the french fries are poison. Jennifer Lopez graces the May cover of REDBOOK, and reveals the secrets to balancing a multifaceted career, marriage, motherhood, and fame.

With this month’s release of The Back-up Plan, a guest-starring role on Glee, followed by the summer release of her new CD, Love?, the superstar is still in hot pursuit of all of her passions.

On marriage and finding “the one”: “I think you can love many different people, but that’s different from what makes a great partner in life, which Marc is for me… He inspires me to be better at everything—a better person, mom, singer, performer, friend, and wife. A marriage is long, and you’ve got to like the person as much as you love or lust after them. You’ve got to be friends first.”

On how motherhood has changed her: “I can’t help but be a different person now that I’ve had kids. That really does change your whole perspective on life for the better. I definitely feel like I’ve grown up. So, I guess in a way parts of me are going to be different, but in general I’m still the same girl from the Bronx who had big dreams.”

On fame and accomplishments: “I always wanted to be great at what I did—that’s what drove me. If I got rejected, I wouldn’t take it personally. I was like, Make them a fan and they’ll bring you back in for something else. I never thought about money or fame, and I never really thought that would happen to me. All that was just a by-product.”
